AN ENGLISH CASTLE--PAINTING #5

Introducing my fifth painting! I am quite happy with this one. I wish the colors would show up a bit better, because that's what I like best about it! I am really enjoying the new art set Rhiannon got me for Christmas. This has been a great way to wile away the cold January hours this year. So far this is my favorite painting of all. I've done three barns, the hollyhocks and this English castle.

I try to work on a little bit on a painting each day. It's amazing to see how a work evolves (hate that word!). I usually start with sky and background and then gradually add details. I didn't like the colors of the hills on this one, so I added "heather" to mask some colors I was not happy with. I was very pleased with the skies here and wish you could see the colors better.

I hope you are enjoying your winter days! Blessings, LORI

  1. You have REALLY made a lot of progress in just 5 paintings! Do you start with a picture in your head? Do you have a photo you work from? I can't imagine where I'd begin if I DID have the supplies.

It is a lovely day today (at least looking at it from the inside). Sky is beautifully blue.

  3. You're whipping those out fast! Good job! In painting class we worked on the same picture for the whole semester!

Ever since you opened that painting kit at Christmas I've wanted to paint! I think it might possibly drive me nuts because now I won't be able to until after I have squirt #3...and then I'll have three kids...3 and under....I think I'll make it a goal to paint when the kids are moved out :P

  4. Rebecca: Thanks for the lovely compliments. The frame is actually broken--a leftover that came with our bathrrom mirror when we built the new house. I loved it and saved it. It is actually too small for the painting as well as broken. So far I've started with just ideas in my head. I've been talking about painting from a photo--one of my favorites we have that Rhiannon took in Yorkshire on our trip to England. There were two very cool looking sheep with a "castle" type residence in the background. The photo is so neat it almost looks unreal. I think that is my next attempt!

  5. Kori: I think you should start painting with Emma coloring while Sophie sleeps! Did Emma see a few posts ago where she and I were painting and coloring? I'd like to know what she thinks of that picture.

  6. I showed Em the picture and she smiled and said Granny. I guess I should have clarified a little more. Technically you aren't supposed to paint when your pregnant. As far as that kind of painting I think people's opinions differ on whether its okay or not. I have my first doctor appt. on Monday so I think I'll ask then.

  10. Thanks so much, Gwendolyn! I appreciate the lovely compliments. I started another one yesterday to match the castle. It's a ruined abbey that puts me in mind of one I saw in England! So far I'm not too happy with it; must add a bit more to it, I suppose. Thanks for visiting!
