Here's Emma trying to smile for the camera. (My daugher in law is in the background. Emma's dress is the "Middleburg" dress. Her outfit features a black blouse, black skirt, and striped apron. There is also a brightly colored bodice overlay. She has two bonnets, though only one is visible in the picture. The little "wooden shoes" she has are actually fuzzy slippers made to look like the Farmer's style wooden shoe. Both girls seemed to enjoy their dresses and Sophie put up a little fuss when I tried to put hers away. She begged to put it on again and I understand Emma didn't want to take hers off, even for a nap!
My family ancestry includes a grandpa born in Rotterdam, Holland back in the late 1600's or early 1700's. This made the construction of these dresses even more exciting for me, as I learned just last year that we had a little Dutch ancestry.
I enjoyed making these outfits and really enjoyed seeing the family again. Poor Huxley, he didn't get a Dutch outfit! Maybe next time!
